The Disc Golf Pro Tour crowns its season champion at the Powerball Cup (the DGPT Championship). Who gets to play in it is decided by the Powerball DGPT World Standings — a season-long points race. This page explains how the points work, what counts, and how a player gets in.
Each points event awards points on a fixed curve: the winner gets the most, and every place after that gets a bit less, with points awarded deep into the field (MPO past 140th place, FPO to about 50th). Bigger events award more — the same curve is scaled up by event class:
| Event class | Win awards | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| DGPT (Elite Series) | 150 | base curve |
| DGPT+ | 200 | base × 4⁄3 |
| DGPT Playoffs | 250 | base × 5⁄3 |
| PDGA Major | 300 | base × 2 |
| Doubles Championship | 137.5 | each partner gets half the combined points of the two singles places their team finish spans |
| JomezPro Series | 20 | flat bonus: 20 for a win, 10 for top 5, 5 for top 10 |
Ties split the pot: everyone in a tie gets the average of the points for the places the tie covers (two players tied 2nd each get the average of 2nd- and 3rd-place points).
A player's season total isn't everything they earned — each class of event has its own cap, so skipping events (or having a bad one) eventually stops hurting:
| Class | What counts |
|---|---|
| DGPT + DGPT+ (incl. doubles) | best 10 finishes (of ~15 events) |
| Playoffs (GMC + MVP Open) | both count, always |
| Majors | best 2 — MPO has 3 eligible majors, FPO has 4 |
| JomezPro bonus | all of it, on top |
That's 14 counted finishes plus bonus, for a theoretical maximum of 2,800 points. Wrinkles: the Heinola Open awards no FPO points (it ends four days before the U.S. Women's Championship), and the USDGC awards no points because it falls after the points season ends at the MVP Open. In the forecast's expanded player view, finishes that don't count are struck through.
The Cup field is 32 MPO / 20 FPO. Three ways in:
The playoffs themselves are gated by the standings: the Green Mountain Championship field is the top 100 MPO / 50 FPO after Worlds (expanding to 120/60 if it doesn't fill), and the MVP Open field is the top 72/36 after GMC plus the top 8/4 GMC finishers from outside that line. So a hot September can carry a player from 90th place all the way into the Cup.
The forecast simulates the rest of the season 100,000 times: each player's scores are drawn from their PDGA rating, fields come from real registration lists (or participation patterns where registration isn't open), live events are projected from the holes actually remaining, and every rule above is applied to every simulated season. The percentages you see are just how often each outcome happened. Full methodology and source: github.com/dgoodenough/discgolf.
| Jul 9 | Model recalibrated against all 6,667 completed 2026 player-rounds. The round-noise constant inherited from 2021 was nearly double the real spread; scores now track ratings more tightly (MPO ≈6 rating points per stroke as before, FPO ≈7.3). Odds sharpened accordingly — high-rated part-timers gained the most. Standings are now auto-validated against StatMando after every weekly refresh. |
| Jul 8 | Advanced view: projected remaining starts, projected dropped points, and the playoff points-cut odds. Every banked finish now shows its odds of being dropped by season's end. |
| Jul 7 | Counting fixed to per-class caps (best 10 DGPT, both playoffs, best 2 majors). Doubles teams pulled from registration with team-level projections. Rows for every registrant, dates and places throughout, weekly movers panel, this page. |
| Jul 5 | Ale Open banked the moment it finished. GMC/MVP columns now mean "makes the field". Winner's-invite path folded into Cup odds (100% for winners). |
| Jul 4 | Live events: results feed in near-real-time (15-min refresh during play) and in-progress events are projected from the remaining holes. Prediction snapshots recorded for end-of-season scoring. |
| Jul 3 | Launch: 100k-run forecast, sortable table with finish-distribution sparklines, inline what-if, playoff-field odds, dark Ledger theme. |
| Jul 2 | Points engine validated exactly against official StatMando standings (0 diffs, both divisions). |
